The National Allergy Strategy Group ( NASG )
The NASG is an alliance of patient and professional organizations that have agreed to work together to improve allergy care in the UK.

 

Core membership of the NASG:

Activities of the NASG include:
The House of Commons, Health Select Committee enquiry into the provisions of allergy services.
The Committee has reported on:

  • The availability of NHS allergy services, patient choice, quality of care, access times, geographical distribution and access to specialist services
  • Private providers of allergy services
  • How to make improvements


The Committee found current services totally inadequate and made radical suggestions for change. A summary of the findings can be found on the leaflet below. Below are copies of volume 1 & 2 of the report, also a copy of the Governments reponse to the Health Select Committee Report.

  • June 2003: Launch of the RCP report documenting the allergy epidemic – Allergy: The Unmet Need. Summary of report :
    • 18 million people in the UK have an allergy
    • 12 million will be receiving treatment in any year
    • 6 million have sufficiently serious allergy to need specialist help.
    • Hospital admissions for allergy increased threefold in the 1990Hospital admissions for allergy increased threefold in the 1990’
    • NHS services are not adequate to cope with this epidemic
  • February 2004: Treat Allergy Seriously Campaign, communications from patients asking their MP for help
  • June 2004: House Select Committee enquiry - on allergy provisions in the UK .
