The meeting at the Royal Society of Medicine was a fitting tribute to the contribution made by past editors Barry Kay and Stephen Holgate.

There were approximately 180 delegates registered for the meeting, which was more than we originally anticipated proving that this was a very popular meeting. Professor Durham opened up the meeting by welcoming everyone, this was followed by Barry and Stephen sharing with us some of the highlights over the past twenty five years.

Andy Wardlaw chaired the first two sessions on the ‘epidemic of allergic disease’ and ‘risk factors and allergic disease’, and after lunch Anthony Frew chaired the ‘inflammation and allergic disease’ session which featured the current editor giving us an insight into ‘eosinophils and mast cells and allergy’ and reviews editor – Mark Larché spoke to us of ‘T cells and allergy’.  Co-editor of the journal Qutayba Hamid from Montreal, Canada spoke about the molecular pathology of allergy and asthma. In  the last session of the afternoon, co-editor Robyn O’Hehir, from Melbourne, Australia gave an depth presentation on anaphylaxis and finally reviews editor – Chris Corrigan gave an outstanding presentation on ‘Difficult Asthma’.

To round off the events of the day there was also a dinner at Chandos House where Barry and Stephen were each presented with an engraved glass vase which was a perfect end to a perfect day.
