Primary Care

The aim of the group is to improve standards of allergy services delivered in primary care.  Our starting premise, which is based on strong theoretical and empirical grounds, is that the majority of patients who experience allergic disorders can and should be effectively and safely managed in primary care.  We recognise, however, the need for clear referral pathways to secondary and tertiary care to enable safe and effective management of patients with severe disease.

 

Our focus mirrors very closely the primary care related issues highlighted by the House of Commons Health Committee, although the Primary Care Allergy Network (PCAN), run by Allergy UK, have taken on the task of creating a network of primary care allergy providers.  Following discussions at the meeting on 30th March 2007 we propose that the group works with the BSACI to realise specific objectives..... more >>>

 

Paediatrics

The BSACI Paediatric Allergy Group (PAG) was formed in 2007 and is made up of a group of Health Care Professionals (HCP) who share an active interest in field of Paediatric Allergy. Since its inception the group has rapidly expanded to nearly one thousand active members. PAG's primary aim is to improve the care of children with allergies.

Clinical Immunology

Clinical Immunologists in the UK see a large number of allergy patients a published audit has shown that nationwide that clinical immunologists contribute significantly to the unmet allergy needs highlighted by the Royal Colleague of Physicians report ‘Allergy the Unmet Need’. Dietitians – Food Allergy and Intolerance Specialist Group (FAISG)

The Food Allergy and Intolerance Specialist Group (FAISG) of the British Dietitic Association (BDA) was formed in 2002 its Chair Ms Isabel Skypala is a member of the BSACI Council. The group has over 80 members which hold meetings twice year, their AGM is usually held during the BSACI conference in July. All members of the group are involved in the field of allergy, in addition to giving dietary advice to patients members also play an active role in diagnosis, with 54% involved in or performing skin prick testing and 33% undertaking food challenges….more >>>>

 

Junior members

The Junior Members Section (JMS) of the BSACI is a dynamic and vibrant forum which encourages clinical and academic excellence and networking amongst junior colleagues. Comprising trainee allergists, paediatricians, immunologists, respiratory physicians and scientists, the JMS has expanded its profiling in recent years.

    

Standards of Care Committee

The Standards of Care Committee (SOCC) is a subcommittee of the BSACI whose aim is the development of guidelines for the management of patients with allergic disorders in secondary care. The committee is chaired by Dr. Shuaib Nasser and currently consists of 16 members including allergy specialists, paediatric allergists, immunologists, and junior allergists and is supported by Dr. Pia Huber the BSACI research officer. SOCC also interacts with and supports the BSACI primary care working group in the development of allergy guidelines for primary care....>>>more
