GPwER Assessor Criteria

BSACI GPwER in Allergy Assessors

  • In terms of assessors BSACI would have two for each application.  An existing GPWER and specialist
  • Assessors would be paid (BSACI pay £150) for each assessor
  • There should be two Assessors one a GP, the other a specialist
  • To work with the applicant to sign off on application/standard applicant would need to do this through clinical supervisor and allergy specialist
  • All folders can be sent to assessor via secure SharePoint
  • Spreadsheet of applicants will be colour coded to identify what stage of their application/assessment process they are at
  • Ensure everyone is given a unique ref number only use these instead of name for data protection services and for sending via email link to assessors
  • Both assessors fill out their report form and share notes and need to come to an agreement as to the outcome of the application
  • Assessors should have a month but in essence our internal deadline will be six weeks. A call for assessor is put out to the membership only need about 3 from specialist and 3 from Primary Care which can be rotated and ensure the same assessors are not always together as they can get too comfortable with each other and familiarity can take over from the objectives
  • Both assessors to agree on final outcome of applicant if not we need to appoint a senior assessor
  • Assessors have a contract with BSACI this enables some obligation on their part to fulfil this role
  • TIP: Specialists naturally know more about topic area than those applying for GPwER status therefore have a tendency to be more hard on the candidate but have to remember these are GPs. The important area to consider is have they identified their capabilities and boundaries in order to be able to safely manage patients and know when to seek advice when appropriate
