WAO & BSACI 2022 UK Conference a huge success
On 25th-27th April 2022 World Allergy Organization (WAO) and BSACI hosted a joint conference from the heart of the beautiful historic city of Edinburgh. The conference was attended by 840 delegates, speakers and exhibitors from all around the globe, making this a truly international event.
The rich and robust programme was delivered by a host of international experts and was a key opportunity to meet and learn from colleagues from around the world. The conference highlighted the allergy field on a global scale and focused on the effect of the environment and climate on allergy. We focused on collaborations with national and international societies, with a joint society session featured on each day. We highlighted the importance of input from all parts of society and offered a platform to key UK charities – the Anaphylaxis Campaign, Allergy UK and the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation (NARF), to discuss the latest information around research opportunities and protecting the allergic public.
We celebrated excellence in allergy care and research. Congratulations to the winners of the Barry Kay Award winners, William Frankland and Jack Pepys awards, and Harry Morrow Lecturer. Dr Pamela Ewan was especially recognized for the enormous contribution made to allergy services in the UK. BSACI and WAO offered support to delegates through the Abstract Award Scheme with travel, registration and accommodation costs for the conference. There were two categories for applying, either UK or international (including Europe) – 16 UK awards and 8 international awards were awarded. BSACI was pleased to offer financial support to medical scholars by providing funding to pay for costs relating to attendance at the conference. The interest in medical scholarships this year was huge, and 22 Medical Scholarships were awarded.
We hope delegates found the conference a rewarding experience and enjoyed the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the world.
