The British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology campaigns on ‘The Allergy Epidemic: Time for change to make lives better’ – a collaboration with ITN Productions Industry News
LAUNCHING JUNE 2020
The British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) and ITN Productions Industry News are co-producing a news-style programme on the allergy epidemic raising awareness around the issues of allergic disease to improve the lives of those with allergies.
The number of people living with allergies are on the rise, and it is now estimated 40-50 % of children in the UK will receive an allergy diagnosis with food allergies, hay fever, asthma or eczema. ‘The Allergy Epidemic: time for change for make lives better’ – will be a series of engaging films debunking the myths and misinformation, showcasing the latest advancements in the field including key areas of research in allergy prevention and desensitization and will shine a light on the experiences of those living with allergies.
ITN Production’s leading reporters will interview industry experts at the forefront of the profession who are delivering change within the sector, particularly in areas such as food labelling, clearer messaging and information, air quality, as well as research, treatment and provision of care.
Launching at the EAACI Annual Congress in London on June 6th 2020, the world’s largest congress specialising in the field of allergy and clinical immunology, the films will form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring BSACI and professional partners, as well as journalists, writers, bloggers and relevant government departments.
Professor Adam Fox, BSACI President of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology said: “Sadly people are dying in the UK as a result of their allergies, these deaths could have been prevented had appropriate safeguards been put in place. Our aim is
to raise awareness of allergies and the impact these have on lives and, and working with patients, bring about change through policy makers.”
Dr Mohamed Shamji, EAACI London 2020 Congress Chair said: “The EAACI has a global membership of over 10,000 allergy and immunology experts. The EAACI Congress in London will provide and excellent platform to work together with the BSACI and tackle the unmet needs in Allergy in the UK.”
