Governance arrangements for GPwERs – 30 July 2025
Introduction to the GP with Extended Role in Allergy
Integrated Care & Extended Roles
- The NHS Long Term Plan promotes integrated care and the development of Primary Care Networks
- Within these networks, practices may offer extended services delivered by GPs or other trained staff
Allergy Services in Primary Care
- Many GPs already provide local allergy services in community settings or linked to specialist units
- Ensuring GPwERs (General Practitioners with an Extended Role) are properly trained and competent is essential for safe, high‑quality care
BSACI GPwER Framework
- BSACI has created a GPwER framework outlining key allergy competencies
- Endorsed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)
- Includes models of care, training requirements, accreditation and assessment processes
BSACI acknowledges the valued support of the
GPwER accreditation programme from
ALK Abello and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
