Department of Allergy at Guy’s Hospital is the largest adult allergy department in the UK which has been accredited at the highest level of the international quality management scheme (GA2LEN European Network of Excellence) as well as recognised as an International Centre of Excellence by the World Allergy Organisation.
In addition to general allergy services, we run specialist clinics in drug/vaccine/latex allergy, food allergy and urticaria/angioedema. We carry out sublingual and subcutaneous immunotherapy (desensitisation), insect venom immunotherapy and anti-IgE therapy for chronic spontaneous urticaria. All clinics are consultant-led and supported by specialist nurses and dieticians. We are a designated allergy training centre.
We have a dedicated Allergy Day Care Unit for drug and food provocation testing (‘challenges’) and drug desensitization. We run multidisciplinary clinics with dermatology (urticaria/angioedema – dr Rutkowski; eczema – prof Till), oral medicine (dr Haque) and ENT (dr Pillai). In conjunction with St Thomas’ Hospital Children’s Allergy Service we provide a dedicated adolescent and transition allergy service (dr Caballero).
The department runs a comprehensive postgraduate education programme and an active research programme.
