GP Referrals are directed to appropriate consultant depending on the predominant allergic symptom. On further assessment if input from other specialist is needed patient is internally referred.
Children services—-We provide facility for Skin prick test, modified skin prick tests, Specific IgE, Food challenge, lung function tests, patch, photo patch testing and short contact testing. All the tests are provided by trained nursing staff.
Children services are provided in Paediatric outpatients. Trained nurses in the paediatric outpatients are performing skin prick tests, spirometry, blood tests and other tests as required and are also providing adrenalin auto injector training.There is a designated day ward for Paediatric food challenges. There is facility for investigating simple drug and venom allergy. No facility for desensitisation available at present. Where required, for highly complex patients, the team will consult tertiary allergy centre.
There is a Paediatric and adult dietetic support. The allergy plan for individual child is shared with community teams and school nursing service.
Adults
There is no designated Adult allergist. Dermatologist and ENT surgeon examine and investigate adults in adult outpatient area. The respiratory physicians look after asthma in adults. There is no immunologist at L & D hospital. Patients are referred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital or other allergy centre.
