Leaving a Legacy to BSACI

Leaving a gift to BSACI in your Will

The British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI) is the UK’s leading professional society for healthcare providers who manage patients with allergies. Our members include consultants, nurses, scientists, dietitians, researchers, and many other professionals dedicated to improving the lives of people with allergic conditions.

Our mission is to enhance the understanding and treatment of allergies and immune-related diseases through education, training, and research. We develop high-quality educational resources, clinical guidelines, and learning opportunities and ensure allergy care remains a priority in the UK healthcare system.

Supporting BSACI through a gift in your Will is a meaningful way to ensure future generations benefit from continued advances in allergy care.

How to leave a gift in your Will

BSACI recommends that you contact a solicitor to make your Will. There are three main types of legacy:

  • pecuniary legacy – a gift of a specified sum of money
  • residual legacy – a percentage of what is left of your estate after any debts, taxes or costs have been subtracted
  • Specific – these are items, such as a house, stocks and shares, or jewellery

If you already have a Will, adding a codicil allows you to make changes without having to rewrite the entire document.

Suggested wording

The following are examples of what you need to write in your Will:

  • for pecuniary or specific legacies: ‘I give to the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (Registered Charity Number 1069199) a pecuniary / specific legacy free of all taxes of £XX for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer will be a sufficient discharge to my executor/s.’
  • for residuary legacies: ‘I give to the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (Registered Charity Number 1069199) the whole (or a X% share) of my residuary estate for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer will be sufficient discharge to my executor/s.’
Updating your will

If you have already made a Will and the only change you want to make is to include a bequest to BSACI, you can do so by completing a codicil. BSACI recommends you speak to your solicitor about making a change to your Will.
