BRIT Information for Patients - BSACI

BRIT Information for Patients

What is BSACI?

The British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology is the UK’s leading society for healthcare professionals who specialise in allergy at all levels. Its aim is to improve the management of allergies and related diseases of the immune system in the United Kingdom through education, training and research.

What is a patient registry?

It is a database of people affected by a disease, or people having a specific treatment or procedure. Registries are used by health professionals around the world to learn many things, such as a disease’s prevalence and effects, or a treatment’s safety and effectiveness.

What is BRIT?

The BSACI Registry for Immunotherapy is the UK’s only registry for people being treated with immunotherapy for allergy. It is held on a secure internet-based database and keeps track of immunotherapy treatments, side effects, reactions and effectiveness. It also shows how many patients in the UK are receiving immunotherapy for allergy and which areas need better access to treatment. Our goal is to have every immunotherapy patient in the UK registered with BRIT.

If I choose to participate, what information will be kept in the registry?

You will be asked to complete a form containing questions about your background, location, and gender. If you would like to participate in the registry but would prefer not to provide answers to all of the questions, you are certainly welcome to do so. You can also withdraw from the registry at any time and your information will be deleted. Click on the links below if you would like to read through the patient consent forms.

Will you contact me?

If you sign up for the registry, you will be asked for your email address and your phone number. These will be used to send you a questionnaire every 1 – 6 months, depending on treatment. These questionnaires help the registry and your doctor understand your experience, how you’re feeling, and how well your treatment is working. The phone number will only be used for these questionnaires, as many patients have found it easier to complete them through a text message link. If you are interested, we will also send you a monthly newsletter to update you about the registry’s progress. We will never sell your information to third parties.

If you do not wish to receive the questionnaires, you can decline to provide your contact information.

I’d like to participate. Where do I start?

Let your allergy specialist or someone on their team know that you want to be a part of BRIT. They will provide you with all of the necessary forms and answer any questions you have.

For any specific questions about the registry or BSACI that they can’t answer, email the registry administrator at [email protected].
